The Cirque and Me

The Cirque and Me

“There is power in numbers”, Jai always says to me. Being a strong individual I have always felt like I didn’t belong to any particular group or thing. This never bothered me but I do think that I failed over the years to realize just how important numbers or belonging can be to success. I have opened up myself to this concept of belonging with the Cirque de la Nuit troupe and it is extremely powerful what a group of people who believe in what they do can accomplish together. This weekend my new tribe and I accomplished what could have been just another ‘pipe dream’. We created three different sets with 21 characters to tell the story of our circus. As Theatrical Lead I designed the look of each character through costume, hair and makeup design. It was an arduous process, meeting with designers, acquiring corporate sponsorship, developing a story book of characters, hiring artists to be a part of my team… But in the end it was worth it to see it all come to life. And I must say, I definitely was impressed with my creations! 16 hours of hard work and almost flawless team co-operation led to some of our best editorial creations to date. I have attached some samples of a few of the character shots that I took with my iphone. Now, I was in the hair and makeup room for most of the shoot but I did manage to sneak out when some of my favourites were being photographed. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do and I hope you will all want to come to our Cirque de la Nuit photo exhibit in September to see the final collaboration in print! Enjoy!
